Re: [VAC] What the hull should I do?

I have recently finished mirror polishing a '56 Bubble Airstream. When I
was removing oxidation on first go round I found a series of god awful
scratches on each side at about chest level. Tried to polish them out but
only had minimal luck. Couldn't figure out what might have done it. I
finally talked with a previous long term owner and he mentioned that one
time (he was in US Navy air branch) he brought home some "wadding" they
used on the airplanes and tried and polish the trailer. I didn't say what
a mess he made of things but I had my answer. I would not suggest this
method if it is the same stuff as it deeply scars the aluminum. I suggest
getting as good polish machine and the proper polish and removing the
oxidation and probably any discoloration to the aluminum. If you have a
plasti-coat finish on the trailer you will need to remove that to get to
the aluminum. Can use a paint stripper such as Aircraft stripper or try
using a lacquer thinner or a lacquer stripper. Doubtful about a May 10
deadline with this process. You might tidy and clean up the finish with
Walbernizer Cleanere & Glaze. It is designed to treat the plasticoat
however if it is alrady peeling it will not correct that but can improve
the appearance of the good stuff.
