Re: [VAC] Add Gray Water Holding Tank to 1973

I keeping from filling the gray water tank rapidly, one needs to use a
different philosophy in the galley and bathroom than at home with
infinite supply and room for disposal of water. What my mom did all her
camping life was to wash in a plastic dishpan in the camper sink. Maybe
with a second one for rinsing, but not to run water down the drain
washing and rinsing. Same thing for hand washing. In rural Missouri
where she was raised and where they pumped water by hand, a pan of water
might serve the whole family most of the day for washing hands. The lye
soap made up for any things that happened to grow in that wash water!

To predict filling of the gray water tank, it would be most appropriate
to NOT connect the hose to the city water system, but to fill the fresh
water tank of the camper, then disconnect. Use water frugally, then when
the fresh water tank is empty, since that water either went to the
toilet or the gray water holding tank, its clear signal of time to empty
the gray water tank before filling the fresh water tank. Its important
to have a gray water tank with at least the capacity of the fresh water
tank for this to work, internal or portable.

In other words, use water as if you had to haul it from the well by the
bucket, because you do have to haul the gray water sometime.

It is practical to take a bath using only the water from the tea
kettle... Not luxurious, but sure saves hauling water...
