Re: [VAC] Taildrag & Book

In addition to the "rear end sag" and the "frame separation" there is
another problem of rusting out of the "outriggers", those bracing pieces
that are attached to the outside of the main frame. They extend about
10" out from the frame. The body of the airstream actually sits on these
"outriggers". These pieces are known to rust thru and if a number of
these are lost consecutively you can get a sag of the trailer body. It
is not common to see this sag but often doors and windows may cease to
fit correctly. I know of one person who had a vertical framing member
poke thru the interior skin of his unit. After removing the bottom pan he
discovered several rusted and detached outriggers and said the body of
the trailer was sagging three inches at that point. Outriggers can be
replaced by welding or bolting on new ones.
