Re: [VAC] Tradewinds question

Janis, I think the others have pretty well covered the bases on what
seems to be an unmodified 1962 24 ft A/S Tradewind Land Yacht. I think
you have the original hydraulic brakes, and that lever on the A-frame is
a parking brake. Actually it is a master cylinder, that can be pumped
to actuate the wheel cylinders and spread the brake shoes to lock the
hubs and wheels. You are right, your coach has NO brakes. You will
have to replace your backing plates with loaded plates and new hubs to
accomodate the electric brakes. Your best bet is to find a trailer
builder, horse, or utility, or a competent RV shop to modify your
brakes. Those old hydraulic brakes will have to go. Additionally, you
will need to have the brakes wired into your connector, and you will
need a breakaway switch. Lastly, you will need a controller on your tow
vehicle, so that when you depress your brake pedal, the controller is
acuated and the trailer brakes are applied. It is best to have all
this professionlly done. You can then have all that hydraulaic mess
removed.

Send your serial number exactly as it is stamped on your ID plate, and
I will decipher it for you. Your battery is a 3ET, and as Pat said you
can buy a replacement at NAPA, or Sam's, or Sears, or any good Battery
outlet.

Good Luck
