Re: [VAC] Elctrical Info

Jim,

It must be that time of year for univolt uncertainty.Hence all the questions
about 12 volt operation.
I have questions regarding 12 volt circuit breaker sizing after the univolt.

At present my '66 Trade Wind has a 40 AGS fuse for 12 volt overload
protection between the univolt power supply and the trailer electrical
loads. There are also 3 delay type circuit breakers each supplying circuit
protection for individual 12 volt circuits after the aforementioned 40 amp
main fuse. I would like to replace these breakers during my restoration but
they are so badly corroded I cannot read the ratting. My owners manual has a
schematic diagram but does not list a size. Would you happen to know what
size these might be.

Outside of my 12 volt refrigerator circuit (35 Amps) which I will provide
separately and use only when hooked up to my tow vehicle, the total
connected load on any one of the 3 circuits would not exceed 20 amps. It
would appear that if all 12 volt appliances were to be utilized at the same
time however, this would blow the main 40 amp fuse. This doesn't seem to
make sense because this means if we were camping in the fall after nightfall
with lights and heater on, when we tried to use the water pump the whole 12
volt trailer system would go dead due to a blown fuse with or without the
univolt.. So I am either over estimating my power usage or I need to
carefully manage my 12v power consumption more than I had anticipated.
