Jim,

You're right in not wanting to run a lead-acid battery until it's fully 
discharged. My understanding is that this will shorten the life of them. I 
mean to just go until the lights dim.......then turn on the Univolt to 
recharge. In fact I don't do this often.
The main reason the on/off switch is installed is to get rid of the 
humming noise when sleeping since the bed is near the Univolt. That hum 
can drive me crazy!!
