My flange (71SS) screws into the tank.
When mine wouldn't unscrew, I put the studs that hold the toilet back in 
place, drilled matching holes in a 2x4, bolted it down with the toilet nuts, 
then had some leverage to unscrew the flange. I think I used some wd40 also.
