I make my own w/a http://www.silvergen.com/  SG6.   It can also be 
purchased in health
food stores and online.

Don't know the answers to activated charcoal (think you can also 
purchase it that way) and
I never use bleach due to the carcinogens.

Algae has never appeared in my water tank, so have to 'assume' that due 
to c/s properties
it not only kills fungus, virus, bacteria, but doesn't allow algae to 
start due to that.
