Hadn't tried anything, as I worried I could ruin the surface in that 
area
and would need to do a complete 'shine' which I don't intend to get 
into.  :o)

I will try the rubbing compound after I try the 4 parts lacquer thinner 
and
olive oil, in case that doesn't work.
