I've had really good luck with Dry-Lube with PTFE (Teflon) in my magazines 
for both pistol and rifle.  It does not get gummy and does not collect dust. 
It could be better for rust prevention but that is not it's main purpose.

I'm getting more into synthetic lubrication for my heat, teflon should be 
part of everyones medicine chest...  There are a couple of brands, the 
Liquid Wrench brand comes to mind (Gunk now).

I don't know anything about projectors... :)
