Comment from Ned Digh, 75 AS
Several years ago I added a Valterra (black) blade valve to solve the
same problem. I purchased a black Valterra valve, single inlet and
single outlet, installed it with a rubber Fernco coupling. As i
recall, I sawed off the AS Thetford fitting, slipped on the Fernco
and put the Valterra valve in the other end of the Fernco. The
Fernco uses two Stainless Steel worm clamps. To add rigidity, I
added a metal brace, a short metal strap, I can look at it and send
you a photo if you desire. The whole effort took about 20-30 minutes
and cost about twenty bucks. It does not leak and is easy to open
and close. I did not use any adhesive, but that is a matter of
choice. A number of brands are available at the hardware store or
maybe gasket sealer from the auto parts store. Switching from a
Thetford (white) to Valterra (black) has not caused any problems.
