Eddie and All: Now THAT was an explanation. Thanks Eddie - I immediately went out to the A/S and unplugged it from the house current and turned on a light to work the batteries. I have done all the stuff you said not to do so hopefully the batteries will stand my abuse and not die before I mend my ways. Thanks again. Jo Ann
