Re: [VAL] Padded vinyl near air conditioner

Greetings Warren!

> My wife, who is in charge of renovating the interior of
our '64 Overlander, was wondering if the unique padded,
quilted vinyl around the air conditioner serves any
functional purpose? I assume it must, since it is so
unusual, but I would like to know what that purpose is, and
whether we can safely remove it.

The roof/ceiling comfort cover matched the bedroom wall
comfort covers that were part of the International trim
package on the '64 Overlander. While the sales literature
that I have doesn't spcifically mention the bedroom
roof/ceiling comfort cover, I would suspect that it was
likely part of the International package; but was also very
likely available as optional equipment on the Overlander
Land Yacht as well. I haver really enjoyed having the
upholstered ceiling in my coach. While it doesn't seem to
add much in insulation, it does help to muffle and reduce
some of the noise from the air conditioner -- and it does
mask much of the sound of rain on the roof unless the rain
is particularly heavy.

> Also, we are going to be removing (as per wife's
renovation plan) the molded fiberglass shower/sink/toilet
assembly in the rear. Does this have any value to someone
doing a restoration? Ditto the gaucho couch in the front.

I am sure that someone pursuing a restoration would be
thrilled to find a complete fiberglass bath surround -- the
one in my Overlander had been removed by the second or third
owner. While the improvised replacement is quite
attractive, the original was a much sleeker design (IMHO).

Good luck with your restoration!
