Hi Wendy,
I'm still devoted to my cork floor. It does give insulation from
temperature and noise, it is more resilient than either pergo or vinyl,
and it had prove to be indestructible and easy to clean. It was not
cheap, but it was easy to put down.

I am a mini blinds fan. I put them in because they were cheap, easy to
cut myself, give privacy and ventilation at the same time and take up
less space than the pinch pleated drapes both visually and physically.
When they are up they are gone. For insulation, I made window shaped
panels of mylar triple wall bubble insulation. I put these in the
windows and then shut them. I also use them as shades by bungee chording
them on top of the open windows. As for cold, I just run away.
Seriously, I think the shades would help with that too.
