There should be no problem as long as everyone is using the same datum.  The
most common is WGS84, but there are many more out there.  Once you have a
GPS point in the same datum format it will be the same for every program.
That does not mean that the files are the same so you probably won't be able
to download other files right to your gps.  It does mean that you can
manually load the waypoints into your program and get to the same spot.
