Re: [VAL] Kitchen
I've built a purpose-built drawer that fits under the oven in a Bambi
and Caravel. It has slots for dishes and rectangles for wine glasses,
with just enough room in each compartment for the dishes/glass and a
wrap of the 1/8' foam cabinet liner material that I get a Costco. Photos
on request.
In the Bambi and Caravel, the "drawer" is really a tilt-out that sits on
(rotates on) the toe-stop on the floor and if you tilt it far enough,
you can pull it out totally (no hinge). The goodness of this design is
that you can use the space behind it and above the weel whell for
seldom-used items, and still get at them without undue difficulty.
In my 27' Airstream, it's actually a drawer under the sink and despite
its weight, I haven't had any trouble with the drawer slides.
The drawers are made with 1/2" maple plywood and simple butt joints with
a nice face, with 1/8" pressboard or 1/2" plywood dividers. This
construction actually looks fine and despite the simple joints and my
crappy hard-riding axles, have never had any structural problems.
