I would strongly suggest that you have your heater inspected by a 
propane guy, he doesn't need to be an AS technician or even an RV 
service guy.  A furnace that old is likely to have leaks that will 
produce explosions ( bigger ones ) or leak dangerous fumes into the 
trailer.  Trying to "restore" a 40 year old heater is not worth the 
danger or the inconvenience.
