Michael,
I used a 5" grinder with wire wheel attachment to clean the surface. 
Next a coat of POR15 black, over this one coat of POR15's Stirling 
Silver.
Looks good and is all but indestructible. You can use the same 
technique on the frame extension in the rear, as well as for the rear 
bumper.
Small pint cans are all you need for this job. POR15 goes a long way.
