[VAL] Example of Shipping/Purchase Scam, BE AWARE!

Hi EVERYONE
I am attaching a copy of one of the scam emails I've
gotten recently re:purchasing a trailer with a phony
cashiers check. (I've had several but learned about
them thru a woman who got one and it just didn't sound
right). This is not the first, nor will it be the
last. Two of us helped the woman in TN with one of
these, she took the check straight to the FBI after
the Bank of Hudson, which was an innocent victim in
that particular scam as well....said it wasn't thiers.
The phony check had indeed been created off of one of
thier legitimate checks and an unidentifiable number
was used. THEY LOOK REAL. DON'T GET CAUGHT IN THIS! (I
haven't, but have known about the scam now for about 3
years and have sadly known a few folks who've been
approached with them and taken the bait.)

They will use yahoo and hotmail usually, which are
hard to trace, if not completely impossible. (I think
I've traced them to London (re: a horse trailer that
supposedly sat in an Ebay storage facility,
lolol...and the authorities know they are operating
out of Nigeria as well.) The way this one would most
likely work is: The 'cashiers check' is sent with an
added fee for "your trouble" arranging with the
shipper/pick-up. The check is then going thru the
banking system for a week or 2, by this time the
trailer is gone and the bank doesn't pay on it
obviously once they've discovered it's fraudulent.
Then, you are out your trailer and the money. They get
a free trailer. I think someone should put a tracking
device on one of their trailers (or a group of folks
to lessen the cost) and see where in the world they
are actually taking them!  Here's what I got this

promised to send a Certified Cashier.s Cheque for the
payment of the good. So if my terms are acceptable to
you, I would like you to give me your full name,
address and phone numbers so that i can instruct my
client to make out the cheque to you. Pls get back to
me as soon as you get this mail so that i can know my
stand.
