Many people like to keep the original vintage charm of the original and it 
does make the trailer an  investment thats value will go up.  Thanks to all the 
retro suppliers of today, we can keep the appearances original but have all 
the modern conveniences too.  

If you want carpeting instead of the original linoleum tile look, I would use 
a short nap or Berber carpet in a neutral tone that blends in rather than 
contrasts with the original interior.  As far as the gaucho, I would use a single 
color or tweed style.  The fun part comes with the retro print fabrics for 
the accessories such as throw pillows and curtains.  There are some nice cotton 
and bark cloth fabrics featuring late 1950s and early 60s prints at   
Contemporarycloth.com  under reproduction fabrics.
