Yes, but ...

Even though you'd put disc brakes on a 34' trailer and could most likely get 
it moving with a VW Beetle of late vintage which also had disc brakes (or 
substitute an old car here with brake shoes) doesn't mean you could stop 
it's movement.

Nothing works as well as a heavy truck to stop a trailer like an Airstream. 
I understand your argument but it's not always true. ;)
