From my research,  other than experiments on the 15' models around 1950,
It was on the African Caravan of 1959 that a lot of the caravaners painted 
their roofs white because of the extremely hot conditions they encountered.  
I had a 1956 Airstream that was on the '59 caravan and had faded peeling 
white paint from window to window to awning rail.  I had it stripped and it 
had a yellow primer that was almost impossible to remove.  Through my 
research white baked enamel aluminum sheeting was never applied on the 
assembly line during the Post War through 1968 models.
