Re: [VAL] Carbon Monoxide Detectors?

I believe that the detector needs to be installed near the floor of the living
area and not on the ceiling where a smoke detector would be installed.
However------------
I had a detector installed in our 75 Tradewind and it never registered an
alarm. I sold the trailer to a couple and she is a fireperson. She used a
detector from the fire station and discovered a severe leak from the furnace.
When they pulled the furnace they found that it was never completely installed
from the factory! In fact they even found a bag of unopened parts. This
trailer had sat unused for almost twenty years before we bought it and the
furnace had never been fired. I thought I had it checked out but now know we
were just lucky. My suggestion is to ask at your local fire station if they
will check out your unit for CO and propane leaks. I understand that most
communities will do this for you.
One additional thought. If there is someone in New Hampshire who could contact
these new owners of our Tradewind they would be great members for the VAC. I
have given them the info but did not have an application. He has done
marvelous things to our trailer and has very good ideas. His hobby is
restoration.
