I put a spare tire carrier on the back bumper of my Streamline trailer at 
one time.  What happened was that the jerking up and down movement of the 
rear of the trailer eventually caused the bumper to crack.  The carrier 
never failed, and I never lost the spare tire, but I had to have a new 
bumper fabricated for the trailer.

I now carry the spare tire in the back of the truck, on a holder which 
allows it to mount upright to the inner side of the truck bed.
