Re: [VAL] Airstream Marketing

Well put, Brian. I guess I stirred up quite a hornets' nest by pointing
out the mislabeled trailer (even though I got the brand wrong. Thanks,
Fred). I'm happy to hear the opinions of everyone on this subject.
Although I agree that Airstream as a company is largely ignoring this
marketing resource, they are not completely ignorant to it. Take a look at
www.Airstream.com. Does anyone remember what it looked like just two short
years ago? The opening page had a large portrait of Wally Byam against a
bland white page background. The rest of the site was equally boring. The
company has clearly figured out that if they want to attract
twenty-somethings, they need to speak their language. The new website is
pretty great. Maybe the company feels that continuing to use the image of
the bicycle and trailer is enough of an homage to Airstream's history. I
also agree with others about the fact that most Airstream newbies are savvy
yet to the differences between old and new. Although Vintage is for me,
it's not for everyone. The "cool factor" of a vintage trailer is certainly
enough to sell many people on a brand new trailer. "You're Welcome,
Airstream."
