[VAL] step question

The1960 Tradewind we just aquired has a problem with the entry step.  
apparently, someone drove off with the step extended, and tore it off the 
trailer.
Our question is, Has anyone replaced this kind of step, is it (the step) a unit 
bolted to the frame, or are the slide rails part of the frame of the unit. If 
anyone has replace one, could them let us know haow they did it?
