Re: [VAL] Laminate was- new to list - seeking info re: original interior in 1971 Safari

While the laminate inserts are an easy project, I'm really afraid to tackle the bulkheads.
They consist of a very thin plywood core faced on both sides with identical layers of the
walnut laminate -- I really can't envision any practical way to separate off the old
laminate in order to replace it. However, the existing bulkheads certainly could be used
as patterns for complete replacements (but then one would have to deal with the anodized
aluminum edging, which would be quite delicate without support...). So I am
rationalizing that if the laminate inserts and the tambour are lightened up, the
bulkheads won't overwhelm the interior.

We replaced the gaucho cushions with a custom-made super-high-density polyfoam mattress
because both wife and I have very bad backs.
We are deliriously happy with the arrangement -- after traveling with it for a year, wife
is having a matching mattress made up for the house.
But of course, most people would not care to do that.

Good luck on your project(s), everyone will be interested in following your progress --
please keep us all posted, and don't forget to include photos if you can.
