[VAL] FYI: Vent fan and other things electrical in my 1969 Caravel

    All,

That last overhead fan note inspired me to go out back and do some
digging around the vent area.

First of all, thanks go to Gerald for suggesting the other day that I
only remove some of the interior skin rivets to dig for a 12v. source for
the fan.

I first removed the screen assembly and then poked a bent copper wire
into the 1/2" hole in the spacer on the curb side. To my delight, I snagged
a red and a white pair of 12v wires. I drilled out the four inner skin
rivets on the curb side which allowed me to grab those wires again and pull
them out. There was at least 12-15" of wire factory taped into a service
loop, obviously there for cutting into for the fan.

All this got me to thinking about the question I posed last week about
placing another overhead light aft where the air conditioner would be if
there were one.

Well, for all you 1969 owners or others who have the dual raceways as a
part of the design of the inner skin that runs fore and aft on either side
of the vent, I was able to shove an electricians snake from the area of the
fan vent all the way back to where the light might get placed. This has
solved one of my dilemmas about how to get power back there. I now have to
figure a means of getting it from the raceway to the center overhead. But
that'll be for another day.

    Later,

    Glyn
