Re: [VAL] Re: VAL #321/ Pearls bottom problem

Paul,
I suspect a "lift kit" is adding longer shackles to the end of the leaf
springs. This was commonly done to jack up the back ends of muscle cars back
in the old days. It worked but usually changed the pinion angle which caused
premature "U" joint failure. It also changes the pinion/transmission angle
relationships and caused vibrations at certain speeds. This of course
wouldn't happen in a trailer situation. By adding more leaf springs to the
trailer, the spring rate may go up causing added stress on the chassis and
interior furnishings. Re arching the old springs or replacing them might be
a better idea if the straight axle idea mentioned in my last post was too
much work or cost.
