My '73 has it's original awning, and the stiching is so rotten I don't 
dare use it. The roller has a pretty serious spring in it, and I'm 
afraid the stiching will let loose and things will get exciting.

I would not want to have to worry about that when buying a used awning. 
I will replace the fabric on mine one of these days by sending to Zip 
Dee for it. I would suggest you find maybe the old hardware, but get new 
fabric.
