Re: [VAL] Dexter Axle/hitch angle

Hi Dr. G. J.,

Thanks for the suggestion that a 45degree down might be more appropriate for
the Dexter start angle. Also, there was discussion of a parking brake
option. I'm ordering the axle today with these changes from my original
specification.

I'll try to keep the list informed about what I consider to be almost a
drop-in replacement for the Henchen axle.

I kept the 10% increase in axle weight since this single axle is very close
to max personal gear. A couple hundred pounds of additional capacity means
a lot. Still not very pleased with the single axle vs the tandem as in my
'74 Argosy. The tandem arrangement handles road imperfections, etc. by
smoothing them out when bridged by the length of the tandem. I understand
you concern about the possible stiffer ride, but . . . Though it used to
be taboo, Inland RV's rep recommended this increase for Henchen axles.

I ordered the shock bracket that drops straight down from the torsion arm
and will have to make some modifications to the existing shock mount
positions to accommodate this change.

To other would-be axle replacements with Dexter, it seems that this axle is
a winner economically as compared to the Henchen.

                                                                Regards, '69
