Jo Ann, I just purchased a 63 Tradewind which I will be parting out at some point (body is badly marred from a roll over). It has a Duratorque axle along with the "skids". The skids are U bolted to the axle. I would imagine it was done this way to avoid adding any heat to the axle during installation. Colin
