Since I own a tandem I have never thought about this, but I found this 
picture while perusing the VAC Archives and it got me curious.

Mr. Dunmyer says these are impearative. But the pix looks like they are add-
on accessories. I can't ever recall them being discussed.Do all have them?
What do you all think of them?
I guess a flat on a sgl. axle could shatter a drum under the right 
circumstances, And certainly can ruin a rim.
