Re: [VACList] How to remove old WBCCI numbers?

Peter and Michaja,

We just removed the old numbers from our 1960 Pacer last week. Those
old numbers are really hard to remove! I tried softening the old glue
with a hair dryer as WBCCI recommends, but it didn't do it. I ended up
using a gel-type paint stripper and a plastic scraper. That removed the
old numbers and glue satisfactorily without damaging the aluminum. Just
make sure that you use a lye-free type paint stripper--some paint
strippers contain lye, which will etch the aluminum.

Some people have reported finding corrosion under the old numbers. In
our case the aluminum under the old numbers was shiny while the rest of
the trailer is not. (We won't get around to polishing it for a while
yet.)
