Go ahead and get a converter, you'll be glad you did. 
The Inteli-Power 9300 with the Charge wizard (Three charging levels) sounds like 
the thing for you.
I have one and love it. Only had it about 6-7 months, but my battery stays fully 
charged. Haven't noticed a problem with the heat while it's parked, but it does 
have a fan to keep the Intelli Power cool. I've heard that come on from time to 
time.
