Perhaps some additional info would be helpful.  The mirror is  convex and 
about 5" wide and about 9" long.  The convex mirror picks up both the 
trailer tongue and the truck ball when it is a perhaps 6 to 8 ft from 
contact point.   To make contact more  visable you place a 6 ounce 
sturofoam cup on the trailer ball and one on the trailer hitch lock arm, 
in the upright position.  As these two converge you can stop when trailer 
ball cup disappears under the trailer hitch.  It would be possible to 
build a similar unit with a convex mirror attached to an aluminum shaft 
which could be attached to trailer jack post with bungy cords  or of 
course bu attaching a magnet.
