you may have to do that.
what I do is to go to a plumbing supply store (also do this at Homers) and build
what I want out of their parts bins with the "expert" standing there and making
sure that I have the right thread pitch, the right flare angle and so on.

if you cannot do the above, I would look at the plastics.  Of course, I am an
old army guy who believes in "accomplish the mission" above all else.
regardless of how it is done.
