What you propose is possible, at least to an extent.  Unless your '77 Argosy
is an exception to the rule, you will find that the front and rear exterior
domes are galvanized steel and not aluminum.  Whatever the finish if your
Argosy has the galvanized steel domes, they will need some kind of paint
protection.  Also, you may find that the paint hides body repairs from
earlier in the coach's life as ordinary auto body type repairs were often
made with Argosy's when there was minor denting or collision damage.  I
would also suspect that the products used to create the "tooth" that is
necessary to paint aluminum may have created surface irregularities that
might be difficult if not impossible to polish out.
