I had a job one time that sounds very similiar.  It was when I was redoing
the floor at our old house.  I took a standard garden hoe and sharpened it
very sharp.  Round the edges a bit so you don't leave gouges in the floor.
Cut the handle off so it is about two feet long.  Get that sharp edge under
the tile and pound the back with a four pound hammer.  Keep the edge and
angle of your hoe just right and it rips them up.  It is work.  Worked well
for me.  Your milage may vary.  :)
