without seeing, them i would hazzard they are either:
1- Stains (polishing may remove)
2- oxide trapped in a rough spot, try mineral spirits (paint thinner)
3- Scorched aluminum from a prior polish (only more polishing will 
remove)
4- oxided aluminum from a something rubbing on the skin (polishing once 
again)
