Rusty,

First question is: Are you using an extension cord that does not have a
ground wire? If so you most likely have the polarity reversed. Try
unplugging it, turn it over and plug back in. I would HIGHLY suggest that
you get a new extension with a ground wire so this cannot happen again.

Second: If your power cord is grounded, is the polarity at your house outlet
reversed?

If neither of these helps replace the cord.
