[VAC] Re: sealing seams etc.
John. A loose rivet should be removed and replaced, with a small bead of
vulkem around the shank, just below the head, if it's in an area above the
floor line. Seams rarely leak. For over 30 years Airstream seals all the
seams from the inside, and then gives the coach a shower at the rate of
something like better than 1000 gallons per minute, with a dye included. The
inside of the coach is flooded with ultraviolet light that clearly shows any
water leaks.
Everyone should take the factory tour. It's very educational and informative.
Watching a coach get it's "bath" will impress anyone who may wonder about
Airstream's QC program.
Fixing water leaks is not difficult, once a game plan of attack is
established, and implemented, along with using proper sealers. Giving the
sealer time to set, is a must before more water is applied.
