[VAC] kudos

this group ROCKS. gobs of *kudos* to you all!
(you know, warm fuzzies and thanks and pats on
the back and all that stuff). i don't know what
i'd do without you guys. definitely getting wheel
chocks... and likely going with the hand crank
jack (for now). my head is still spinning over
all the floor answers, but i get the jist... try
to save the current floor at all costs.

TOWING: is it EVER okay to tow in overdrive? i
was told to use the manual gears only (i have a
'96 chevy 350 automatic with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, &
OD). i get 18+ mpg sans trailer in OD
(seriously), and i got 12 mpg towing, but did not
use overdrive. i guess this is not too bad for
towing mileage, but i know it would be better in
overdrive... but i can't tow in overdrive can i?

PROJECT QUESTIONS: along with jack and floor my
first orders of business are... door handle (no
surprise, eh?). i want to get it fixed so it will
latch and lock. it's currently bungeed. is there
a "not-so-beautiful" and "not-so-original"... but
practical and functional aftermarket solution to
the oh-so-common broken airstream door handle?

AND: roof vent covers. the rear cover is
jimmy-rigged and tied down as a temporary rain
block but it won't last long when one of our
famous coastal hurricane-strength winds hits..
current cover is pretty much trash.. the latches
are broken and missing and the hinge thingys on
the cover are bent and rusted and useless. what
are my options to fill this hole? does it need to
be openable.. some people put little sunroofs
here, right? rain happens at any time of year
here, so it's a priority to have all the holes
filled and covered. i DO like the idea of being
able to open it, though.

oh ya, this is not priority, but does anyone know
if those little plastic drapery tabs can be found
anywhere? does anyone manufacture an aftermarket
replacement that fits the original curtain rods?

thankys,

Jill
