This seems to be one of the Airstream's biggest shortcomings.  Wally's
engineers couldn't figure how to deal with the belly skin and bumper at the
back.  As a result all the water runs down the back of the trailer and right
into the plywood.  The biggest cause of floor rot on the '60's trailers.

I dealt with it on our '65 caravel by fixing the wood and sealing the gap:
