Tom, I don't think it is a great mystery, but it is indeed a big problem.  I
have long believed it is associated with gas heat as I have washed it off of
cabinets and ceilings in apartments with gas wall heaters.  However I found it
developed worse in the Overlander when we used it continuously through one
winter.  Nevertheless its great as fly-paper for small insects!!!!

I used softscrub to get it off.
