[VAC] Re: Intellipower Installation Question
Jimbo,
I think I have a 40 Amp InteliPower converter in our 25' Avion, and
it's plenty for that outfit. While watching the eMeter during a
boondocking night, I've never seen it hit 25 amps, but we don't leave a
lot of lights on during that situation, either.
It's easy enough to add up your usage: figure each conventional light
fixture with 2 bulbs at 3 amps/fixture, the pump is 5 amps or so, and
the furnace about 5 amps, depending on size. You don't need to figure
that ALL of your lights will be on simultaneously, just add up what's
likely to be on at one time. As you probably know, a 21-watt
floursescent fixture draws only 1.7 amps for at least as much light as
the 3-amp incandescent.
It would not be a disaster if you calculated your usage on the low side,
as your batteries would handle the excess load for a while. IE: if your
pump running puts you over the converter's output, the battery would
pick up the load and the IP would simply recharge the battery afterward.
If I had to guess, I'd say to use a 40 amp size for a trailer up to 25',
the larger size (55 amps?) for larger trailers with more lights. Don't
forget the Charge Wizard.
