I don't know the specific depth of a '75, but on my
'60 it's about 2.5 inches.  It seems to me that you
don't have to put any LONG screws in the inside wall,
just well placed ones.  here's some CHEEP old-tyme
advice - see if you can find part of the ladder frame
by knocking/puching on the wall, drill the hole there.
 the whole shell rests on that frame - it should do
for a table.
