Jeff,
 Get "Managing 12 Volts" by Barre and Moeller's book on RV electrical
stuff. Also, you should have Livingston's "RV Maintenance & Repair" on
your bookshelf.

Trailer electrical systems are very simple for someone who knows a bit
about it, but you aren't gonna learn the basics from reading emails,
you're going to have to do a bit of study. The above books will get you
started in the right direction and will be worth every penny.
