[VAC] Cold Weather Trailering.

I believe it was around Thanksgiving, '76... Santa Fe, NM... my cats and I
had prepared a duck a l'orange feast in our '65 Globetrotter. Outside temps
had dipped below freezing a week or so before, and stayed there, day and
night. The extra cooking time had used up more propane than anticipated, and
i didn't notice that the automatic changeover had, well, 'changed over,
automatically'...
The following morning, I awoke in a freezing cold trailer, and when i rolled
out of bed, my feet crunched through a thin crust of ice over about 1/4" of
water on the floor (my floor was apparently water tight)... The propane had
run out during the night, and the water-pump froze and cracked, leaking
water from the water tank throughout the trailer... all the copper lines and
fittings were intact, for the moment. I rented one of those propane-fired
shop heaters, and put it under the trailer; and the boys and i checked into
a motel while it thawed and drained. Next day, we beat it down to Las Cruces
and made the necessary repairs. Never cared to 'winter' in the trailer after
that.

I'm glad this thread came up while i'm still in the planning stages...
planning on all plumbing being above floor-level, anyway... and any holding
tanks are vented, are they not? Shouldn't that prevent holding tank freeze
damage? Going to use 'PEX' lines, and an electric radiant floor under cork
system... i really like the idea of the radiant 'gutter' tape on the outside
water lines, too.
