[VAC] Batteries

Looking in my RV books, they recommend a Group 27 battery. I am told that
some low end RVs and trailers have a Group 24 battery in them.

The Group 27 batteries are rated at 105 amp-hours as opposed to 80
amp-hours for a Group 24 battery.

Ask your battery vendor to show you the Group 27 batteries, and ask about
the amp-hour rating. My battery shop called the Group 27 battery a "RV"
Battery.

If you want to go nuts, and you have a lot of money in your pocket, you can
buy two golf cart batteries and wire them in series. This could give you
between 225 to 245 amp-hours.

I went to the local battery/starter shop in Portland Oregon a few days
ago. A 235 amp-hour golf cart battery was selling for $79.95 each. Note
that golf cart batteries are built to be charged and recharged often and
they are built in a more robust way than the Group 24 and 27 batteries.
They are a fine choice if you do any boondocking.

The down side to installing two Golf Cart Batteries is that they are about
2 inches or so taller than the battery in your trailer. They might not fit
in your battery box.

PS: If you are a CostCo shopper, you can get a good price there (but no
install or advice). My CostCo does not carry Golf Cart Batteries, but
yours might.
